Upstairs at The Horse & Plough is the newly refurbished Grill Room. The Grill Room is a laid back and informal contemporary grill restaurant. A thoroughly modern British grill menu is given a fresh, European twist thanks to talented Head Chef Stewart Watson who uses the finest British sourced seasonal ingredients to create delectable dishes. The pub is steeped in history. The building was originally a primitive methodist chapel where the three preachers had accomodation downstairs and a community hall on the first floor. Over the years the building has had many uses including an accountants, bookmakers which used to belong to ex-Nottingham Forest player Ian Storey-Moore. It was converted into a restaurant in 1990’s when it was known as ‘The Laughing Cavalier’due to Bingham’s pivotal position in the Civil War between Royalist Newark and Parliamentarian Nottingham. The civil war theme continued in the pubs next stewardship as it was completly refurbished in 1998 creating the layout that is still evident today it was called The Cromwell & Olivers Restaurant but the Bartsch Inns Group purchased the site in 2000 and created The Horse & Plough where it has been successfully trading since December 2000.
